Park Hill Park Framework Vision

Denver Parks and Recreation (DPR) conducted a visioning process to transform the former Park Hill Golf Course into a regional park. This website shows the results of that process, the Park Hill Park Framework Plan. The framework is a high-level vision for the location and types of uses and park amenities that DPR developed in collaboration with the community.

The framework is only the beginning of the process and there will be many more opportunities to get engaged and inform the design! This website will keep you updated on what is happening with the Park Hill Park planning process and how you can get involved. Please check back periodically for updates and sign up below to get email updates.

VISION

Framework Plan

The framework balances open space and active park activities. Visitors can immerse themselves in nature extending through the park, with observation points and nature-based play. Higher-energy areas of the park include spaces for traditional organized sports, alternative sports, and an aquatic experience.

A meandering creek bed through the middle will manage stormwater while creating visual interest, education, and opportunities for ecological enhancement. Park corners are more active, with a field house, destination playground, and outdoor adventure areas near Colorado Blvd and 40th Ave. Ample athletic fields and sports courts along Colorado Blvd provide places to play various sports.

A cultural hub for community gathering is envisioned around the existing clubhouse. Amenities such as restrooms, picnic pavilions, and observation structures are located throughout the park. The entire site is connected by a wide, multi-use park loop and pathway system for easy access throughout.

WOW! When will all this be built? What’s a framework?

This drawing is a big picture vision for what the park could look like based on community input. Right now, there is not confirmed funding for everything you see here, but the Vibrant Bond funding is a big step in realizing a lot of this vision. Your input in the future will inform the strategy for how to phase and budget this project!

VISION + ABOUT

A Once in a Century Park

The City and County of Denver’s Parks & Recreation (DPR) Department will work closely with the community to convert a former golf course into a 155-acre public park in the heart of the city. The site, which operated as a private golf course from the 1930s until 2018, will be ecologically restored and redesigned as the largest addition to Denver’s park system in more than a century.

Park Hill Park is now open to the community as a public park! In a historic deal, the City of Denver made its largest ever single acquisition of private property to become an urban park with the purchase of Park Hill Golf Course. Denver Parks and Recreation will oversee the 155-acre open space which will be open for public enjoyment during daylight hours. The public is welcome to come and experience the space while plans for Phase 1 Implementation of the Framework Plan take shape. Park Hill Park now stands as the city's fourth largest open space -- providing a vital new resources in an area long underserved by premier parks and greenways.

PROCESS

Process + Timeline

There are two distinct planning phases within a 9-month process. Click on the phases below to learn more about the intent and components of each phase. Products resulting from each phase, including key takeaways from analysis and assessments, project material, and takeaways from community input will be added to this site as the project advances. Each phase of work includes distinct tasks in the process of generating a preferred framework scenario for the future of the Park Hill Park site.
